Print On Demand vs. Traditional Publishing

There is a huge taboo in the publishing world, and it’s called Print On Demand. But why? Well, to explain that we have to understand what the difference is between the two forms of publishing. I bend the rules entirely–I have a small press, publishing traditional books, and a POD company to publish on demand. Why do this? Because I believe publishing traditionally offers a better solution for some books, but at the same time I believe POD is a viable solution for some writers. The main problem with POD is that the stigma it has is justified. Write 48 pages of nonsense, go to a random POD publisher and 99% of the time they will put that nonsense into print. If I were a book reviewer with dozens of books flooding my desk every day I would throw every POD book I receive into the garbage rather than spend my valuable time weeding through 99 of them to get the one good book. And that’s exactly what they do. But, this does not mean POD is not a viable solution. Go to a publisher like willowbrook, one that has standards and does good work, and you will see your book get the attention it deserves. Once you have a good product it can sell, but it is up to you to sell it. And luckily if you went with willowbrook you have this awesome dude named Paul to email anytime you need advice. www.willowbrookpublishing.net http
