High class corporate print-on-demand by MARVIA: Steven van Wel @ AWS Amsterdam

If you need new business cards, you normally have to talk to your designer, let him make a few layouts, then check his layouts and choose one or let him make some changes, and finally let it be printed. Same procedure if your address changes. That consumes already a lot of time and also money. Even more time and money it takes for other communication materials like flyers or presentations. But there is a new solution which will help you to get your print materials easier, faster and cheaper …

What are the pros and cons of using a print on demand service like lulu.com?

This is for a small project of mine that I would like to see in print, but have no desire to sell commercially. I know lulu.com offers a print on demand service, as does a company in my hometown, Digital Print Australia. However I would like to know how professional the published work actually looks, who owns the copyright and if they charge for an ISBN (not that the latter would be totally necessary, as it is not for commercial use). Also what are the risks?

Forgive a professional writer for asking this question. Print on Demand is still relatively new in Adelaide - DPA has offered the service for about 6 months and I do not know anyone personally who has published anything this way.
Master of English, I think you may have misunderstood some of the detail in my question. I am considering a print on demand service, as I wish to have roughly 5 copies of a short novella printed that I think would be of interest to several of my friends, but would not be a commercial success and, therefore, is not worth the bother of submitting a proposal and synopsis to Penguin and then waiting 2 - 6 months for a reply, which would most likely be something along the lines of "Thanks, but no thanks."

I write because I love creating and coming up with new ideas and stories. I am lucky enough that some of these have been published and I have made a (small) amount of money. I am also fortunate in that others enjoy reading some of my stories. However, sometimes I just like to sit back and create things that are not intended for a large audience or that make any kind of social or political comment. Its my work and I don't owe readers anything.
Thank you a w that is absolutely the sort of information I need!
