Us Debt Ceiling help Comprehending!?

I sort of understand the situation with how the gov’t borrows money and spends it and was asking for more which would default the budget set.

BUT

For AP Economics I need to connect this event somehow to Mankiw’s Top 10 Economic Ideas. I already used some of them so these are the ones that can be used.

1. People face Tradeoffs
2. The cost of something is what you give up to get it.
3. Reational people think at the margin
4. People respond to incentives (USED)
5. Trade can make everyone better off (USED)
6. Markets are usually a good way to organize economic activity.
7. Governments cans ometimes improve market outcomes. (USED)
8. A country’s stardard of living depends on its ability to produce goods and services (USED)
9. Prices rise when the governmetn prints too much money.
10. Society faces a short run tradeoff between inflation and unemployment.

You can actually find articles or events for any one of those besides 7 and 8 (the other ones used stink) that would be GREAT. I want to connect one of these ideas (besides 7 and 8) to the US Debt Ceiling Crisis since it was a major event.

Another other events you can think of that relate to these ideas that i can write about would be GREAT too! Thanks. 10 points to best answer!

Here's a short story?

Um the other day, some girl posted words she needed help with making a story for her class. I wrote this whole story? I have always loved reading, and always thought it’d be cool to write books. anyway… I did the best with the words she had to use. The words have asterisk’s beside them.. so tell me what you think? I dunno, I came up with it as I was writing it. Took me like 30 minutes. I’d really like the opinions of avid readers only! So thanks.

An agitated* Katie threw up her hands, signaling she had finally given up. The community* was eagerly waiting for any word saying they were safe again. But they never heard those words. "I will leave you to it," said Katie, "I have an interview* at 3:30. If you figure anything out, just call me." "Okay." said her partner John. They had been working on a case for weeks, and were getting no where. A few months ago, a radio tower blew up and there was no explanation as to how, other than someone making it blow up. Since then, the whole metropolis* of Kria had been in pure pandemonium*. There were 13 deaths and 7 injuries from the accident, and everyone who managed to stay alive now feared for their lives. There was someone out there who planned that explosion, and Katie and John both agreed that it was not safe until they figured it out. There were hazards* in trying to figure out who did this. Last week, the office received a bomb threat if they didn’t let the case go. But that wasn’t their job, to let go. and John saw the affect* it had on everyone in town, and that didn’t sit well with him.
"Whoever this punk was, sure knew what he was doing." John said, as he stood up to get another cup of coffee. This would be his fourth one since he got to work three hours ago. "Kid left no trace of himself. No shoe prints, tire tracks." Right then, his boss Terry walked in. "Got this months survey* for ya Johnny." Terry said. Terry was a tall man. His hair was always unkempt* and his shoes always untied. He was clumsy but still good at his job. He had been this way since his divorce seven months ago. "Any leads yet, Johnny?" Terry asked. "Nope, not a one." John replied. His voice was gruff*. Probably from all those years of smoking cigarettes. "There’s no time to procrastinate*, we need to figure this thing out." Terry said hastily*. "I know, I know," John replied. "Me and Katie have been working non-stop since it happened, and I don’t know. I just don’t know what to do. I think this kid got away." John slipped back down in his chair and hung his head. He recalled the night of the explosion. He was just 7 minutes from the radio tower, at a bar singing karaoke with his good pal Rio. He recalled the last few minutes before the tumult* "Giiive me your love baby, I will –" and then it happened. One immense* explosion. Another. A third. And then silence. After a few seconds that seemed like hours, everyone at the bar ran outside to see what happened. Cell phones were going off like crazy, people screaming, kids were crying.

Knock, knock.

The knocks brought John back to the present. "I’ve got something," Katie said. "What? What have you got?" asked John. "Remember the night after it happened, how you said a twenty something man and his so called wife called here, making an inquiry* about the radio tower?" asked Katie. "Well -" start John. "I spoke to this lady today at the interview I had. Now this place is a data* entry company. The woman, she had pictures on her desk."
"I don’t see how this has anything to do with -" John started.
"Just wait," Katie replied, sitting down at the computer.
"You said that the guy on the phone sounded as if he wasn’t shook about the explosion. You also said he said the words ‘only in this lifetime,’ right?" Katie was out of breath. John was still waiting for a point to this story.
"You also said," continued Katie, "that he was a blonde hair, green eyed caucasian male according to the picture the phone sent through."
"Right." said John
Katie was still typing in the computer. She typed in the phone number from the call. The picture of the blonde haired, green eyed guy came up. She clicked analyze.* A few seconds later, his whole profile was on the screen. She stared at the screen blankly for a minute. John looked at her facial expression. It was as if she knew this kid. Katie wrote down his address.
"Why do we need his address?" asked John.
"His marital status says single. You said it was him and his wife on the phone, yea?"
"Yea…" said John. What does this have to do with anything?" he asked.
"The lady at the interview today, she had pictures on her desk. She had a picture of this guy on her desk. I think this is our guy."
"And why, why exactly do you think that?" he asked.
"He left town, and she went with him. I have a feeling about this John, we have to go with it, because we are just wasting him sitting in here." she said, catching her breath finally.
"I have an animosity towards not knowing the facts before I take the
"I have an animosity towards not knowing the facts before I take the test, Johnny, but my gut instinct is telling me, this is our guy."

Knock, knock. "FBI. Open up!" John yelled. You could tell he loved saying that.

The blonde haired, green eyed man came to the door. The second he saw badges, he ran. And that is when they both knew that this was the guy they had been looking for. "Look over there, would ya?" John said, pointing to the Jeep that sat in the suspects yard. There was a piece of yellow paint chipped off, which looked like it had actually been burned off. Katie walked over to the Jeep telling John to call in for back up. Inside the car there was a picture of a tall, thin grey haired man standing by the radio tower as it was being built. Katie reached in through the open window and took the picture. She was shocked when she read the back. ‘Only in this lifetime.’ By this time, Adam had surrendered and admitted to blowing up the radio tower. "Why?" asked John. Katie and John
"Why?" asked John. Katie and John awaited his response. "He told me to. Every day he told me I had to do it."
"Who?" asked John.
"My father." Adam said.
Katie looked at the picture again. The man in the picture was her ex husband, Eric Teal.

Back at the office, Katie put in her time card for a two week vacation. "I am leaving this place." she said, laughing.
"Good work, Katie, but I still wanna know how you knew it was him."
Katie looked at John with a grin on her face that startled him.
"Mother’s instinct." she said.

What do you think of this short story?

What do you think of this story,I just made it up.
~The Black Dress~

Amist a busy street crossing, a young girl dressed in black sat on a lone bench. The girl looked no more then a day over 10. She was clothed in a black dress, and had black boots on her seemly much smaller feet. In her hair was one black headband, and her flowing mane of hair was quite long, streaming down all the way to her boots, but unable to touch the ground. The girl paid no notice to her surroundings, which was amazing since the street was very noisy. She looked like she was staring off into space, and her feet were always moving back and forth swinging slightly off the ground. A man soon found himself looking at the girl, but not for too long. This man was usually busy with his work and often saw himself away from his wife and children, and it was for long periods of time. The man was Ken Hagenlock, a gentleman from germany. At the moment, he was wearing a regular work uniform, with a tie, of course. Ken started to cross the street, but his mind was far from where he was at. His thoughts were full of diagrams and blue prints, and the lines of pens and pencils could not find their way out of his head. The man was in the middle of the street and a large truck was zooming toward his location. The driver, at that moment, dropped an important photo of his son on the floor of his truck, and quickly reached down to pick it up. Ken had no idea that the truck was speeding toward his own death, his mind too full of future plans. The young girl, dressed in black, wispered one word, "Stupid." She jumped from her seat and pushed the "Stupid" man out of the street. Ken had no idea what was happening until he saw the speeding truck rolling past him. He picked himself up and looked down at the young girl. "Thank you miss, but, how did you do that? Wait….what am I thinking! That doesn’t matter, you saved my life! How can I thank you!" Ken was quite happy, it seems. The girl stared up at Ken. She spoke like an adult when she talked, "I have one request for you,Ken.",she held up one finger,"I want you to go home and hug your wife and kids, and tell them that you love them. You got all that?" Ken was amazed. "How could you possibly know my name? I don’t remember being famous, or anything like that." Ken looked very puzzled. The girl looked at her right and spoke,"I would think you, of all people, would ask something like how I know your name. I guess I have just been around the block more times then you have." She turned back at him. "Anyways, aren’t you late for a meeting?" Ken shrugged,"I don’t have anymore places to be today, or tonight, for that mat.." The young girl shouted at him,"Your missing the biggest meeting of them all, one which happens to be the very one that will change your life forever!" Ken steped back. The girl looked upset at him, and at the looks of it, she was about to give him a beating. He thought about want she said at the moment. A meeting, which missed will change his life? And it hit him. "Oh my god, you’re right! If I don’t get home soon,I’ll really get it!" Ken shaked her hand and said his goodbyes. "Thank you miss!" The man ran quickly into the distance. The young girl looked spaced out when she stared at him as he ran off. "The little things are what matter most, Ken. Remember that.", she said under the noise of the street.
