What Print-On-Demand Publisher would you recommend? I live in South Africa. My writing is for 16yrs and above.?

My belief is that a good book coming through PODs can be a launching pad for unknown authors with little or no fund to mass-market their first works. Most reputed Publishers go for known publishers. This makes sense. Publishers recoup funds faster than it would have been to nurture debut authors. What makes a book do well is the mass appeal coming from Marketing Strategies by the Publisher. This is the thinking behind my sourcing for reputed PODs.

Publishing you own novel?

i wrote a novel about a month ago and well, obviously i want to publish it but the thing is- i am clueless about it all.

first;y, i checked online on tips and how-tos but they all are confusing and gibberish, often contradicting.

i am hoping a person in here with expertize on the field can tell me a thing or two about publishing a novel.
i am ready to print it and re-read it.
what are Print on Demand? do i need to do it? do i need an editorial still? do i need to see a copyrights person for this? (there is an office building with such department near where i live, or do i need to file papers of Copyrights and send, ect…)
how does the process go and how long it takes and when do i start earning my royalties? do i need a cover artist or i can use my hand and submit my own art work (yes, i can draw GOOD)? do i need to pay for some the these things? how do i know my publisher is trustworthy? do i need a publisher or i can do it myself? because i read of those who well, relinquish your ownership of your work and i dont want that.

i have checked the sites; www.Xlibris.com and im not so sure… i checked with Vertigo but well, they say ‘to go to a Con and check with some guys and see if they are intersted…

BTW its is a written novel, sci-fi and it has mature contents and ’super heroes and villains’…

help-y plz and thnx ^.^

How much should I charge to advertise?

I’m designing a new E-book RPG game supplement and a Print on Demand company would like to place an advertisement in it.

I feel this is a good fit as they will be paying me money to put the add in the book and people that buy the book will know where to get it printed if they want a nice looking hard copy.

The dilemma I have is what to charge them. I haven’t a clue how to gauge the value of the advertisement.

The supplement is going to be a freebie, a taste of what our products are like, so I’m sure that people are going to be grabbing it just for the heck of it.

Open Rant To Lulu.com

Me losing my sh#t after receiving a batch of books from my print-on-demand publisher, lulu.com. Actually pretty funny given how calm, cool, and collected I usually am. But seriously, Lulu.com HAS to come up with a better way of packaging and shipping. This is the most wasteful packaging I have ever encountered.

Are amazon independent booksellers running a scam by falsely advertising that books are "in stock?"?

I use Amazon quite a bit and I haven’t had any trouble with their shipping. However, I’m also a new author (self-published). My books are print-on-demand. But according to some of Amazon’s INDEPENDENT booksellers, they all have in-stock copies of my book ready to ship. They also listed "used" items before any of my books were actually sold. (that’s a cute trick) So my question is: Are they waiting for people to place orders and lying about having "in-stock" inventory? Or are they printing books themselves? Are people really getting fast shipping from these independents? I’ve used an independent bookseller one time, and my package arrived empty. They never returned my calls, so I reversed payment.
