You make your own book?

Short Run Printing

Hi, I’m an aspiring writer with big dreams. I love the horror and bizarre fantasy tale. Each stems from the dreams and nightmares I have. However, I don’t like modern publishers. First, I want to publish short stories. Modern publishers don’t like to print short stories or anthologies. They hate the risk. What right do a bunch of half bald, old white people in suits have to tell you what is art or what will sell? All that is up to the purchaser and besides, since they control what gets printed they could switch it around. They could only publish short stories or novels from any point of view and it would sell because its all about convincing the mind. I mean take a look at boy bands. The record companies took time to sell and convince everyone that boy bands are good and you should purchase their music (or lack their of), while so many independent musicians don’t get the time of day. It is unfair and not right. Art has already been pissed on.

My question is "Has anyone thought of creating their own book; binding, cover, everything?" I’m not talking about vanity publishing. I mean we have so much technology and the traditional publishing houses are pissing in their pants, scared about self publishing and the technology available to the new author because they know their pocket book will be rocked. So they put up borders to hinder or limit what independent authors can get. Sound familiar???? (hint: Goverment). Lastly there are self publishing authors who give real independent authors a bad name because most of their stuff shouldn’t have been printed in the first place. So again, has anyone thought of publishing the book themselves?: binding it, creating the cover, everything. I’ve seen some people who have created breath taking books out of snake skin, or of exotic quality. How beautiful?? And marketing, christ we have soo much shit on the internet it’s crazy. Anyone see where I’m coming from? And those people who have ’self published’ books with errors, run on sentences, holes in their story, keep on walking. When you print you are not only printing for yourself but for your potential readers. The readers should get their moneys worth. Thank you to everyone for reading my entire rant. lol. And I’m not sure who said this, maybe Ambrose Bierce, "An editor is merely a failed writer". Let the big name publishers put that in their pipe and smoke it!!!
My comment wasn’t made to make traditional publishers shake in their boots. I was just interested in knowing if anybody has thought about it. To me it is fun to know. I’ve seen some good ones. By your comment "They know something that you don’t" What did you mean by that. Thanks Vicky and enjoy your day. :)

" Let the big name publishers put that in their pipe and smoke it!!!" I’m sure you have them shaking in their boots, but first ask yourself why all budding authors don’t do it or do you really think you are the first person to think about it, I suspect they know something you don’t
I meant if could easily be done it would have been done before now; my answer was tongue in cheek, if you feel you can do it; go for it !
