yes but the german immigrants werent the founders of the US. and when it was put to a vote the german language came close second to english when trying to decide which should be the official language of the USA. so if americans of german descent made and still make up the majority of the population that would mean many of your ancestors voted for english. so if i was you i would keep it that way.

well that still wouldn’t help because if they won’t learn english what makes you think they will take the time to learn German?Thats like saying (if u know spanish) u would choose German (one of the hardes to learn) over Italian which is close to spanish.
It is not a question of respecting culture, but a matter of practicality. When you have millions of spanish speaking drivers, wouldn’t you want to make sure that they understand traffic laws and regulations… simply for safety’s sake?

the way i see it is you don’t take a vacation to another country without at least knowing a little bit of there language so you sure as hell don’t move there without learning what you can. and you don’t expect everyone else to treat you better then anyone else when you come here to be as 1 united states.

Meiner Meinung nach haben Amerikaner Deutscher Herkunft nichts mehr mit der Deutschen Kultur bzw Sprache zu tun und sind meistens extrem amerikansiert (mit der Aussnahme einiger Mennoniten- und Amischgemeinde).
Both PROC and ROC have used multiple languages. They have laws so that only one language is to be used. There were too many problems with more than one language. The idiot politicians in this country can not figure that out! What we need is politicians with common sense instead of "political correctness"!

I think that everyone who comes to America needs to learn English. That is our official language here. If these so called Latinos come here LEGALLY, then that should be one of the criteria’s for them to come here. Just because there are a bunch of them, doesn’t mean we should change anything about America. I personally think that they should round up all these illegals and send them back to Mexico. Then build a concrete wall that is 5 miles deep and 5 miles high, kind of like the great wall of China. Patrol the wall and shoot anyone who tried to cross over illegally. I am not a racist, I just think that Latinos have taken advantage of the law by coming over here illegally
