Like, for example,if there’s a group of people–they’ve been called/labelled something unpleasant (according to this group of people) by the print media (a newspaper), can the newspaper be sued and/or demanded a public apology towards that group of people?
Yes,yes, yes, The Daily Mail IS printing false info about a rock band which is TOTALLY not true, and there are MANY people, almost EVERYBODY who thinks the opposite of what The Daily Mail has written!(yes,Frenchie,I’m talking about MCR !)
It’s really complex and would have to see the article to give you any kind of answer.
well no …. they’re a newspaper so they can say what they want … i know it’s horrible …. but then again people sue other people for stupid stuff … this definitely isn’t stupid … so you can try …
No, unfortunately not. They have a right to call them anything they want, its called Freedom of Press. However, if they made up lies and presented them as facts about this group, you could sue them for libel (printing false information.) Hope this helps.
I think so … it makes sense that there would be.
I know who you’re talking about!
Check into the libel laws in your nation (wherever you are) and see if there was a false statement of fact that causes damage provable in court for a private person (because public persons and public officials are different).
In the U.S., defamation of character would not apply in most cases and the statement would have to be stated as fact and not opinion.
Hope this helps you, but without knowing more details this answer is difficult to construct.
Off-hand, labeling a group of people something unpleasant sounds to me like opinion.
