Seems like the answer to every problem that comes up now is tax the rich. How much should the rich have to pay or how much should we let them keep? What happens when we have taken all their money and there are no longer any rich people.

I would return Social Security to the insurance program it was originally intended to be.
Social Security was supposed to be a 'safety net' for those who approached retirement age without any kind of financial security, due to their own fiscal negligence, horrendous health care costs, unwise investments, job layoffs, or any other cause of their insolvency.
Instead, Social Security has become the biggest entitlement in this nation. Everyone believes that they "paid into it", therefore they deserve to get something out of it.
These same people pay for car insurance and house insurance all their lives and consider themselves fortunate if they never have a claim. But, Social Security is something they think they 'deserve'.
WRONG!
Social Security should be a pool of money in which all working Americans contribute, but only those who approach retirement age destitute, penniless, or bankrupt should be allowed to collect any benefits.
I know people who are worth literally millions of dollars, drive luxury cars, own multiple homes, and take several luxury vacations each year - yet they still believe they're 'entitled' to their paltry little $1800-a-month Social Security check. It's these people who virtually steal from those who really need help: the legal American citizens who are disadvantaged, underprivileged, disabled, poor, sick, elderly, unemployed, mentally ill, homeless and hungry.
Social Security can easily be fixed: continue to let everyone pay into it. Just don't everyone grab a check when they turn 62 or 65. Social Security recipients should have to 'spend down' all their cash, get rid of all their assets [and not by putting it into a trust for family members], and demonstrate that they need financial assistance before they become eligible for the benefit.
Unfortunately, the AARP is one of the largest lobbyists, and our cowardly politicians are too intimidated to change the system.

Adjusting the Social Security cap to higher than $97,500 and taking taking cutting benefits or increasing the retirement age off the table for any negotiation.

Does it matter what Democrat voters think?
Their Congressional caucus has already weighed in. 100% of them have declared on the record they intend to let it collapse.
